President Obama Will Get Advance Screenings of Game Of Thrones Season 6

TV News Game of Thrones

Because sitting back and watching the Republican Party tear itself apart clearly isn’t enough entertainment for President Barack Obama, he’s going to get to watch advance screenings of Season 6 of Game of Thrones.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed this fact at GoT’s premiere event in Los Angeles on Sunday. “When the commander-in-chief says, ‘I want to see advanced episodes,’ what are you gonna do?” said Benioff. Weiss described the President’s request as an “ah-ha moment” that signified that the show had made it … as if Game of Thrones’ complete dominance of pop-culture conversation whenever it airs hadn’t done that already.

President Obama is notably a huge fan of the show, and you don’t exactly turn down the most powerful man on the planet when he wants to know what happened to Jon Snow before everyone else finds out. And while we’re naturally a little resentful, to be fair, it’s probably best for Obama to be able to watch on his own schedule. While Game of Thrones is one of the few remaining regularly scheduled weekly TV programs that constitutes an event, the world doesn’t just grind to a halt on Sunday nights. Imagine if Obama had to watch like a mere mortal:

“Mr. President, I’ve got Kim Jong-Un on the line.”

“One minute, Glenn, Arya’s about to throw down with Daenerys. One-on-one-on-dragons.”

“But Mr. President, he says he’s going to nuke—”

“Goddammit Glenn, shut up!”

“Forgive me, sir, but he sounds even more deranged than norm—”

“Glenn, get the hell out or I swear I will go full Mountain on your ass!”

(Exit Glenn. Arya kills Drogon, Dany kills Arya. Enter mushroom cloud.)

For the rest of us, Game of Thrones premieres on Apr. 24.
