UFC Fighter Conor McGregor Will Have a Cameo in Game of Thrones‘ Seventh Season

TV News Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones has been host to a variety of cameos over its first six seasons. Those have ranged from musicians to impersonators, and their work on the show has often varied in significance. On Wednesday, news broke that UFC fighter Conor McGregor will make a cameo appearance during the show’s seventh season.

Apparently, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, both huge UFC fans, had made a general offer asking McGregor to appear, and the news was confirmed by UFC president Dana White. During an appearance on Fox Sports Live, White said “I did hear that. I knew a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. I’m glad he did it. It will be great. The show is huge. It’s awesome, and I’m excited for him.”

Of course, it’s unclear exactly how big McGregor’s role in the show will be, although he certainly looks the part. As big and broody as he is, maybe he’d make a good match for The Hound? He’s already got one fight with The Mountain under his belt, which you’ll find below—The Notorious vs. The Mountain, anyone? Either one is a brawl that’d be well worth waiting for.

Game of Thrones is set to return for its seven-episode seventh season in the summer of 2017. Find out where the show landed on Paste’s list of 2016’s best shows here, and watch McGregor take on The Mountain himself, Hafþór Björnsson, below.
