Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington’s Little Fires Everywhere Limited Series Finds a Home on Hulu

Hulu is the official home for Kerry Washington’s and Reese Witherspoon’s TV adaptation of Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere, the streaming service announced today.

The project has been the subject of a much-talked-about bidding war amongst various programming outlets since it was announced. Hulu gave the adaptation a straight-to-series order.

When speaking on the decision to go with Hulu, Witherspoon stated, “Hulu has a rich history of transforming groundbreaking literature into groundbreaking television, and we are confident that their talented team will use this story to spur a long-overdue dialogue around race, class, and what it means to be a mother.”

Washington added, “As producers, we at Simpson Street are so proud to be part of this team to tell this extraordinary story inspired by Celeste Ng’s phenomenal novel” while adding her company was “thrilled to be embarking on this journey with Hulu.”

Hulu’s decision came down to the source material, with a press release noting that Ng’s work “explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood—and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.”

Hulu seems to be on a roll with female-oriented series like Casual and awards season darling The Handmaid’s Tale. With so many shows focused on strong female characters, Hulu appears to have landed their next big event series in Little Fires Everywhere.
