Jason Mitchell Dropped from The Chi Amid Misconduct Allegations

Straight Outta Compton star Jason Mitchell will not return for the third season of Showtime’s The Chi, and will no longer appear in the Netflix film Desperados amid multiple allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behavior, Deadline reports.

Mitchell’s dismissal from Desperados, in which he had been set to play a leading role, came after producers received and investigated information about an alleged off-set incident. Word of the incident then reached the producers of The Chi, who opted not to pick up Mitchell’s option for the show’s next season. The actor’s agency and management have also cut ties with him.

A source close to the Showtime series told THR that several actresses on The Chi had issues with Mitchell, and Tiffany Boone, who played Mitchell’s girlfriend, made repeated complaints of sexual harassment against him. Boone reportedly felt so uncomfortable around Mitchell that her fiance Marque Richardson (Dear White People) would accompany her to set when she had to shoot scenes with Mitchell.

This isn’t the first time Mitchell has found himself embroiled in such a controversy. In 2016, the actor was investigated for allegedly assaulting a woman in a Boston hotel, where she claimed he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground. No arrest was made.

Since making his major film debut as Eazy-E in 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, Mitchell was hailed as a breakout star, with acclaimed appearances in Mudbound and Detroit. He appeared as a series regular on seasons one and two of The Chi.

New Girl’s Lamorne Morris will replace Mitchell in Desperados, THR reports.
