Amazon Greenlights Jack Ryan Series Starring John Krasinski

TV News John Krasinski

Amazon has greenlit a ten-episode Jack Ryan series which will star The Office veteran John Krasinski. The hourlong action drama will be a modernization of American author Tom Clancy’s iconic novels, Variety reports.

Krasinski will play Ryan, an emerging CIA agent who intercepts a terrorist communication while on his first field assignment. This throws him into the center of a dangerous web of potential global destruction at the hands of a new terrorist group.

The concept started at Amazon in late 2015 with a promising series commitment, as opposed to their usual pilot-testing strategy. Krasinski was then cast this past spring, but the series had still not been greenlit, until now.

Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and, most recently, Chris Pine have all played Ryan in the five film adaptations of Clancy’s novels, but this will be the first TV series. Krasinski’s 13 Hours director Michael Bay’s will executive-produce the show through his Platinum Dunes studios, along with Skydance Media and Paramount TV.

The Prime Video series will be shot in the U.S., Europe and Africa, but a premiere date has not yet been announced.
