Netflix has ordered single-camera comedy Black Excellence from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, who will also star in the series alongside Rashida Jones.
Netflix’s synopsis for Barris’ forthcoming series, the first in the overall series deal between his production company Khalabo Ink Society and the streaming service, reads:
Inspired by Barris’ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race and culture, Black Excellence looks to pull the curtain back and reboot the “family sitcom” in a way we’ve never seen before.
Barris and Jones will also serve as executive producers alongside Black-ish and Grown-ish producer Hale Rothstein. The series launched its writers room last month.
