First Star of Amazon’s Forthcoming Lord of the Rings Series Announced

As information about the series slowly begins to be released, Amazon has tapped actress Markella Kavenagh to star in the forthcoming Prime Video Lord of the Rings series, per Variety.

Keeping with the trend of keeping things on the DL, Kavenagh’s role in the series is being kept quiet, but she’s reportedly portraying a character named Tyra. Kavenagh is the first cast member to be announced for the forthcoming Amazon series, which takes place in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.

The plot of the series is quite ambiguous, but it will take place prior to the storyline of Peter Jackson’s legendary film trilogy. It’s also been confirmed that J.A. Bayona will direct the first two episodes of the series, which is being scripted by showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay.

Most recently, Kavenagh has starred in the BBC miniseries The Cry. Prior to that, Kavenagh starred in Amazon Prime’s Picnic at Hanging Rock with Natalie Dormer and the Australian series Romper Stomper.
