A collaboration between Wizards of The Coast, Hasbro’s Allspark Animation, Octopie and Bardel Entertainment, the animated series is set to be released via Netflix, and the Russo brothers will help develop and expand on the beloved story that’s been around since 1993.
The series will focus on the Planeswalkers, which are “Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold,” according to a press release.
The Russos will executive produce the series along with Mike Larocca and Isaac Krauss of Octopie, Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Jose Molina (The Tick) and Yoriaki Mochizuki (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).
“We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us,” said Joe and Anthony Russo in a statement.
