The New Trailer for Netflix’s Shadow of Truth Foretells an Israeli Making a Murderer

Between Serial, Making a Murderer, and last year’s one-two punch of The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and the Oscar-nominated doc O.J.: Made in America, it is clear that true-crime works continue to generate ripples in our modern moment. Some of the best works of this genre move beyond merely recounting the progression of a trial or the details of a case, but use the criminal incident as a springboard for examining systemic flaws. Shadow of Truth, which chronicles the investigation surrounding the murder of 13-year-old Tair Rada in 2006, appears to belong to this category, and, based on the show’s new trailer, looks to be something you should add to your watchlist.

Shadow of Truth’s full synopsis reads:

It was a cold December day in 2006 when 13-year-old Tair Rada was found dead inside a locked toilet stall at her school on the northern tip of Israel. A week later the police arrested Roman Zadorov, a Ukrainian immigrant who had worked there as a temp, and eventually he confessed to the murder. But many still believe he is innocent, and have their own theories as to what happened that day. Shadow of Truth is a Rashomon-like exploration of this murder mystery, which raises serious questions regarding our justice system and its ability to reach the truth.

Shadow of Truth was created by Yotam Guendelman, Ari Pines and Mika Timor, and produced by Guendelman, Timor and Ben Giladi through their EGG films. The four-part series was exceedingly well-received in Israel, where it has become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows in Israeli history. It is now streaming on Netflix, the platform on which Making a Murdererhadow of Truth has been repeatedly compared, made its premiere. Watch the trailer above.
