HBO’s Sharp Objects Will Premiere in July

When it comes to the marriage of murder mysteries and miniseries, HBO is the reigning matchmaker. Season two of the pristinely soundtracked and intensely plotted Big Little Lies is on its way in 2019, but in the meantime, we have another deathly drama to keep us occupied. HBO has announced a July 8 premiere date for the eagerly anticipated Sharp Objects, a limited series based on the book of the same name by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.

Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects don’t just share a streaming platform and an all-around eerie aesthetic; they share a director, too. Jean-Marc Vallé is returning to HBO to direct the eight-episode Sharp Objects, which stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a mediocre journalist and unenthused Missourian who returns to the town she grew up in to investigate a pair of murders. Camille’s history of self-harm, plus a sordid relationship with her family, have her feeling especially moody during her hometown stay, leading her to unearth a murderous story even darker than what she initially feared.

Marti Noxon is the show’s creator and a writer, but Flynn, being the readied creator of dark thrillers that she is, also serves as scribe for several episodes. The series also stars Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Patricia Clarkson, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis and Madison Davenport.

Paste listed Sharp Objects as one of our 20 most anticipated new shows of 2018, so get excited. It premieres Sunday, July 8 at 9 p.m. ET. You can watch the trailer below.
