Wrap Your Head Around the Sharp Objects Opening Titles, Reimagined à la Full House

HBO limited series Sharp Objects concluded this past Sunday, Aug. 26, delivering a finale that shocked audiences and made “Don’t tell Mama” an instantly iconic line of dialogue. Based on Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s 2006 novel of the same name, the show centers on Camille Preaker (Amy Adams), a troubled journalist who’s forced to confront her dark past when she’s sent to her small Missouri hometown to investigate the death of a young girl and the disappearance of another. It’s dark, cerebral TV that moves slowly until it strikes, cobra-like. It’s also Very Serious Prestige Television, which is why we’re so tickled by one YouTuber’s reimagining of the HBO show’s opening titles in the style of feel-good ‘80s/’90s sitcom Full House, in which cognitive dissonance abounds.

Sharp Objects’ setting, the fictional town of Wind Gap, is a terrible place where children are murdered, and everyone and their mother are hiding a dark secret or malicious agenda, but slap the Full House theme song on it and suddenly everything’s peachy! The clip manages to capture the show’s most pleasant, sitcom-y moments, transforming a harrowing tale of trauma into … well, this. Watch it below and revisit our review of Sharp Objects right here.
