Sons of Anarchy Spinoff Gets a Pilot at FX

TV News Sons of Anarchy

There’s more to be done in the world of Sons of Anarchy—at least, FX seems to think so. The network announced Thursday that it will shoot a pilot for Mayans MC, a continuation of the Sons of Anarchy saga that will be written by Kurt Sutter and his producing partner Elgin James.

Sutter, the creator behind the widely beloved SOA, is set to direct the pilot. The plan for the spinoff will be to focus on the Mayans motorcycle club, and Sutter plans to set the drama in a world after Jax Teller. The story will follow EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border, as he deals with his need for vengeance against the Cartel and with his desire for respect from the women he loves.

The Mayans were recurring and often pivotal players over the course of Sons of Anarchy’s seven-season run. The club controlled Northern California and all of Nevada, and the president of the Oakland chapter was Marcus Alvarez, played by Emilio Rivera. It’s unclear what role he may have in the pilot, although the actor recently posted an image on his Instagram suggesting he may be involved.

Let’s not forget that the Mayan MC’s cuts bore the phrase “Los Asesinos de Dios,” which means “Assassins of God.” If there’s a reason this spinoff seems like a cool idea, it’s probably that phrase.
