Barb of Stranger Things Fame Gets Second Life in NBC’s Drama High

Stranger Things fans, rejoice! Barb’s not dead!

Well, okay, yes, she is totally dead on Stranger Things. You have to have accepted that by now. But the real good news is that Barb actress Shannon Purser just landed a leading role on NBC’s forthcoming teen drama Drama High. According to Deadline, Purser’s role as an aspiring teen thespian was crafted specifically for her—perhaps that means her character will be Barb-esque?

Drama High, inspired by the book of the same name by Michael Sokolove, is about a working-class high school drama department, a passionate teacher and the talented students that bring the show to life. The impressive executive producers are Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) and Jeffrey Seller (Hamilton). It’s sounds like it might be a kind of mash-up between Glee and an 1980s high school drama, but it’s hard to tell at this point. Purser’s character, Annabelle, is “one of the students in the town who works harder than anyone else to make the cast of Spring Awakening despite not fitting the exact mold of what everyone has in mind.” A hard-worker who doesn’t fit in? Sounds like Barb territory, alright.

There’s no word on a release date yet for Drama High, but you can watch the trailer for season two of Stranger Things here. We know that Barb won’t be in the next season, but who knows, maybe we’ll get a flashback or two.
