First The Crown Season Three Teaser Reveals Olivia Colman’s Queen Elizabeth II

Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the forthcoming season of The Crown, depicting aged-up Oscar winner Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.

The third season of The Crown sees a new guard sweep into Downing Street, as Queen Elizabeth and her family face the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain. From cold-war paranoia through to the jet-set and the space age, the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s. It is a time of “a great many changes,” as Colman says in the teaser.

The 30-second clip doesn’t give viewers much and seems more focused on emphasizing the transition of the Queen from young woman to “old bat,” as she quips. Her advisers go with the more refined “settled sovereign.”

Written by Peter Morgan, The Crown also stars Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as The Duke of Edinburgh, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten. Colman replaces Claire Foy, who played the queen in the show’s first two seasons.

Season Three launches on Netflix globally on Sunday, Nov. 17. Check out the teaser below ahead of its broadcast debut during the 2019 Primetime Emmys this Sunday.
