Around 50 ex-wrestlers are teaming up for a joint lawsuit, suing World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for negligence regarding head injuries, the AP reports.
The suit, filed with prosecutor Konstantine Kyros, claims that WWE did not provide proper information or medical care to the wrestlers. According to Bloomberg, the suit specifically states that the company “placed corporate gain over its wrestlers’ health, safety and financial security, choosing to leave the plaintiffs severely injured and with no recourse to treat their damaged minds and bodies.”
Among the notable plaintiffs in the current suit are Joseph “Road Warrior Animal” Laurinaitis, Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff and Chris “King Kong Bundy” Pallies, both members of Demolition and the Powers of Pain, and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, whose dementia recently rendered him mentally unfit to stand trial in the 1983 murder of his girlfriend. The lawsuit names WWE chairman Vince McMahon as a defendant.
WWE have since issued a statement, calling the lawsuit “ridiculous” and calling out prosecutor Kyros for his previous failed legal actions against them. They are confident the suit will be dismissed.
Previous attempts to sue WWE over neurological harm have failed, including three suits in May that were either dismissed or thrown out based on insufficient evidence or faulty allegations.
