Former FBI Director Andrew McCabe Says DOJ Officials Discussed Trump’s Removal via 25th Amendment

In an interview with Scott Pelley for 60 Minutes, former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe confirmed long-held suspicions that top Justice department officials discussed whether to move towards invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office following his firing of James Comey.
McCabe also insinuated that deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein had suggested wearing wires to meet with President Trump.
McCabe said he met with Trump following Comey’s dismissal, and then met with the team investigating Russian election interference the next day. He hoped to insulate the Trump investigation. McCabe told Pelley, “I wanted to make sure that our case was on solid ground, and if somebody came in behind me and closed it and tried to walk away from it, they would not be able to do that without creating a record of why they made that decision.”
In a series of tweets, Trump responded to McCabe’s statements with accusations of collusion and weakness:

These statements from McCabe come at shaky times, as Rosenstein is on his way out, and Thursday will see a Senate vote on whether to confirm Trump’s new nominee for attorney general, William Barr.
