Valve Acquires Firewatch Developer Campo Santo

Valve’s recent affirmation that it is getting back into the business of making and shipping games got some added confirmation over the weekend when it was announced that the purveyors of Steam had purchased Firewatch developer Campo Santo.

Campo Santo revealed the news in a blog post, explaining that they will still be able to make games they want to make, including the forthcoming In The Valley of the Gods, which will now be released under the Valve banner. According to the studio, the decision came after “We had a series of long conversations with the people at Valve and everyone shared the satisfaction we take in working with people whose talents dwarf our own to make things we never thought possible.” The 12-person crew will move their operations to Bellevue as development on In The Valley of the Gods continues. A representative confirmed to Polygon that Campo Santo’s games will not be exclusively released on PC under Valve.

Campo Santo further confirmed that its other offerings, including its blog content and literary journal, The Quarterly Review, will see no interruption. “In Valve we found a group of folks who, to their core, feel the same way about the work that they do (this, you may be surprised to learn, doesn’t happen every day). In us, they found a group with unique experience and valuable, diverse perspectives. It quickly became an obvious match,” stated the studio.

In The Valley of the Gods now joins the trading card game Artifact as the two known titles currently under development at Valve.
