Bob Dylan to Release New 1966 Live Recordings as 36-Disc Set

Music News Bob Dylan

We’re due to get another giant onslaught of Bob Dylan live cuts: a 36-disc set of recordings of 1966 performances, many of which he played with The Band, will be released on Nov. 11.

Legacy Recordings couldn’t help themselves. While in the midst of researching a different box set, the 12th installment of Dylan’s official bootleg series, they “were continually struck by how great his 1966 live recordings really are,” president Adam Block told Rolling Stone. “The intensity of Bob’s live performances and his fantastic delivery of these songs in concert add another insightful component in understanding and appreciating the musical revolution Bob Dylan ignited some 50 years ago.”

The concerts in the forthcoming The 1966 Live Recordings occurred in the U.S. and Europe, and are taken from soundboards, CBS Records tapes and audience recordings. This will be the first time many of the recordings have been released.

Dylan’s May 26 performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London will also come out as the standalone The Real Royal Albert Hall 1966 Concert. The performances on 1998’s The Bootleg Series Vol. 4 were mistakenly labeled as happening in Royal Albert Hall; this release corrects the error and will be out on vinyl Nov. 25 and CD on Dec. 2.

It’s difficult to imagine the demand for new Dylan recordings ever being satisfied, but here’s to another drop in the pond.
