Labyrinth Will Return to Theaters This Spring

Jim Henson’s 1986 classic Labyrinth will return to theaters for only three days this spring for a nationwide fan celebration of the 32-year old film. The screenings will take place in late April and early May, according to EW. Fathom Events will present the film in association with Sony Pictures and the Jim Henson Company.

Labyrinth is one of the most frequently requested titles, and has an enormous fan base,” said Tom Lucas, Fathom Events’ vice president of studio relations, in a statement. “It’s a film with great appeal to a huge audience — and also a cinematic experience that can be enjoyed over and over, always revealing more surprises. We couldn’t be happier to share it with moviegoers again.”

The cult classic stars Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly in one of her earliest roles; she was around the age of 16 when the film came out. Connelly won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her breathtaking performance in A Beautiful Mind, where she played the strong wife of mentally ill mathematical genius John Nash (Russell Crowe). She’s known for playing very dark characters who often go through some form of transformation, sometimes for the worst, in such films as Requiem for a Dream, House of Sand and Fog, and the recent American Pastoral.

Labyrinth follows a young girl, Sarah (Connelly), who must navigate a dangerous labyrinth in order to save her younger brother. The late, great David Bowie’s iconic Goblin King Jareth kidnaps Sarah’s brother and she must rescue him before midnight or he will turn into a goblin.

The special screening will feature bonus introductions by Connelly and the son of Jim Henson, Brian Henson. An excerpt from Jim Henson’s fantasy series The Storyteller will also be played, with episode commentary by Jim Henson.

The film will screen at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time on Sunday, April 29, and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, and Wednesday, May 2, at participating Fathom Events theaters nationwide. Tickets go on sale this Sunday online and at participating box offices.

Fans are strongly encouraged to show their support by wearing costumes, fully immersing themselves into the labyrinth.
