James Patterson Launches Second Co-Author Competition in Partnership with MasterClass

James Patterson is looking for a new co-author. The novelist will partner with MasterClass to hold a writing competition to search for undiscovered talent for the second time. Patterson has already teamed up with MasterClass once to search for a writing partner, and chose Kecia Bal as the eventual winner. The pair went on to co-write a new book called The Dolls.

Beginning Feb. 1, students can submit work for the competition, which is only open to students enrolled in Patterson’s MasterClass. After finishing the class, students can submit a two-sentence hook for their story (100 word maximum) and a sample chapter (1,000 word maximum). Patterson will choose the top three proposals.

Patterson’s book with Bal begins pre-sale today—you can pre-order it here. Bal is a business reporter for a small-town newspaper, and it seems as though her partnership with Patterson was successful enough that the author is looking to find another. Find out more about the new competition here.
