Julio Torres, the comedian and self-described “space prince” is having a good year. A few weeks ago, his oddball (and great) new show Los Espookys premiered, and today (July 12) he’s announcing a new hour-long HBO comedy special.
My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres finds the comedian showcasing his favorite shapes in front of an audience at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere. With the assistance of a custom-made conveyor belt, Torres breaks down each shape’s personal history—examples include “an oval that wishes he were a circle, a self-conscious cactus and a Ferrero Rocher chocolate that annoyingly left her little skirt at home.”
Torres, born in El Salvador, has been a writer on Saturday Night Live since 2016. He’s written for The Chris Gethard Show and Billy On The Street, and has been quickly rising through the comedy ranks.
My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres premieres on Aug. 10 on HBO. It’s directed by Dave McCary, produced by A24, and executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Los Espookys co-star Fred Armisen. Check out the trailer and official poster below.
