Deadpool Red Band Trailer Released, As Promised

Deadpool is a man of his word, even if that word is a dirty one.

The Merc with a Mouth’s eponymous film got a full-length trailer last night, as Deadpool himself promised in the “trailer trailer” we covered on Monday. In addition to a (relatively) family-friendly green band version, the red band Deadpool trailer debuted on Conan last night, earning the episode a TV-MA rating, much to its host’s chagrin:

Deadpool is a tough sell in a lot of ways—Ryan Reynolds’ superhero track record isn’t exactly spotless, and Deadpool’s mix of ultraviolence and dark humor is decidedly adult, which narrows the film’s box office draw. But with all that said, this filthy, frenetic trailer is a winner.

Reynolds eats up the screen as Deadpool, his every word dripping with caustic wit, and the action scenes are punishing, pumped-up fun, moving at a breakneck pace. Pretty-boy Reynolds is almost unrecognizable as Special Forces operative-turned-mercenary Wade Wilson, even before the shady experiment that makes him “look like an avocado that had sex with another, older avocado.”

We also get a look at the film’s supporting cast, most notably Silicon Valley funnyman T.J. Miller, who delivers the avocado line above and figures to steal every scene he’s in. And Ed Skrein, whom you may recognize as Game of Thrones’ first Daario Naharis, looks awfully menacing as Deadpool’s apparent antagonist, Ajax—he and Deadpool’s samurai sword showdown is another highlight of the clip. We even get a sighting of mutant Colossus from the X-Men universe.

Deadpool comes out on Feb. 12, 2016. Watch the red band trailer above or the green band trailer here if you don’t care for any big boy curse words.
