DC and IDW Team Up for Love is Love Tribute to Orlando Victims

Comics News Love is Love

Comic book publishers DC Comics and IDW Publishing have teamed up to publish Love is Love, an anthology comic that will benefit Equality Florida Action, Inc. and their fund to help the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando on June 12.

Writer Marc Andreyko organized the project, bringing together dozens of writers and artists to work on the 144-page book, which comprised more than 100 short stories. The two publishers haven’t released any details regarding the content of the short stories, but the book’s description on its IDW page says it “contains moving and heartfelt material from some of the greatest talent in comics, mourning the victims, supporting the survivors, celebrating the LGBTQ community, and examining love in today’s world.”

Speaking to The NYT, Andreyko said of his inspiration for the book: “I’m a child of the 80s; I grew up with ‘We Are the World’ and Live Aid. Events like this shouldn’t be compartmentalized. They should hurt and we should want to change for the better.”

While the entire list of creators hasn’t been revealed, a number of writers and artists, who donated their work to the book, have been announced, including Damon Lindelof, Patton Oswalt, Phil Jimenez, Olivier Coipel, Rafael Albuquerque, Steve Sadowski, Paul Jenkins, Mike Carey, Matt Wagner, Marguerite Bennett, Aneke, Steven Orlando, Jason Aaron, Jason Latour, James Asmus, Ming Doyle, James Tynion IV, Cecil Castellucci, Brandon Peterson, Jesus Saiz, Leinil Yu and Elsa Charretier.

Andreyko explained that he “purposely said it would be a one-page thing to get people to commit. I was e-Harmony-ing people. Mixing and matching and seeing who felt right.”

Love is Love will be available in December for $9.99. You can pre-order the comic here, and find two advance images from the comic below, with art by Rafael Albuquerque and Elsa Charretier, respectively.
