Final Fantasy IX Is on Playstation 4 Right Now
Images via Square Enix/YouTubeSquare Enix blindsided Final Fantasy fans at the Tokyo Game Show by not only announcing that Final Fantasy IX is being re-released on Playstation 4, but that it’s out on the platform right freaking now.
The Japanese role-playing game first came out on the original Playstation in 2000, and was marked as a return to form for the long-running series. While VII and VIII before it were popular, IX’s more modern-looking and almost steampunk-eque vibes and aesthetics were a significant departure from the earlier high-fantasy installments of the series—IX was a return to the “fantasy” of Final Fantasy, with your usual medieval-esque designs, and your black mages and fantastical creatures and whatnot.
The game is out on the digital Playstation Store, and will be 20 percent off until Sept. 26, after which it will revert to the price of $20.99. As the Playstation Store description mentions, this re-release comes with Trophy support, HD visuals, new “game boosters” and an autosave function. Check out the announcement trailer below.
