Fortnite Adds Two New Spider-Men

The official Fortnite Twitter account posted a tweet confirming that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara, a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099, will be added to the game in tomorrow’s update.

The tweet includes a very short video showing the two characters in action, as Morales bursts through a skyscraper window while O’Hara looks on menacingly.

Fortnite dataminer and leaker ShiinaBR, who had previously uncovered the upcoming item shop for the update, also leaked a longer trailer showing Miles and Miguel in gameplay mere hours after the official announcement from the Fortnite team. The gameplay shows Miles’ web-swinging ability, apparently similar to that of previous Fortnite guest character and original Spider-Man Peter Parker.

Tomorrow’s release date lines up with the end of a Spider-Verse themed in-game event called Fortnite Web Battles. The event, which began last Thursday, has players choose a team between Team Miles and Team Miguel and complete in-game challenges in order to win points for their team and unlock new cosmetic items, including an emote and pickaxe based on the character Spider-Ham and his cartoon mallet. The ongoing event ends at midnight tonight, just in time for the update adding the new Spider-Verse characters.

This ongoing crossover ties in with the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the second film in the Spider-Verse series. The movie, releasing in theaters on June 2, will feature returning protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) traveling between dimensions in the titular “Spider-Verse,” along with other returning characters Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), as they face some sort of conflict with Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). As a sequel to 2018’s fan and critical darling Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, hype for the upcoming movie is high.
