First New Overwatch Hero Officially Announced

Games News Overwatch

After dropping a big hint about her last week, Blizzard has unveiled Overwatch’s first new hero: Ana Amari, Pharah’s mother. Ana will be a long-range support class and sniper. Using her sniper rifle, she can heal allies from afar and damage enemies. She also has a grenade ability that does a whole lot: heals enemies in a radius around it, damages enemies, prevents enemies from healing and increases all healing on her team. She is also equipped with a dart that puts enemies to sleep for a short period. And lastly, her ultimate buffs one ally’s damage output, damage resistance and movement speed considerably. Her abilities seem to potentially make her more effective on the offensive than previous healers like Mercy or Zenyatta.

Ana has also received an extended origin trailer, detailing her story and relationship to Pharah. Ana was one of the founding members of Overwatch, fighting alongside Reaper, Soldier: 76, Torbjörn and Reinhardt long before the game takes place. She trained her daughter Pharah during this time. However, while out on a mission, she encountered Widowmaker and when Ana had the opportunity to kill her, she hesitated. Widowmaker shot Ana, resulting in the eyepatch she now wears. After that encounter her teammates thought she was dead, and Ana decided to leave it that way. Now, as an older woman, she is back to fight alongside the heroes of Overwatch. Best of all, players will be able to play as Ana for free. We can’t wait, but we’ll have to: Ana’s availability date is TBA.
