Blizzard Reveals New Overwatch Map, Junkertown
Images via BlizzardBlizzard Entertainment has been making good on their promise to roll out new content for Overwatch on a regular basis. Just yesterday at Gamescom, Blizzard unveiled a new escort map called “Junkertown.” This new map is set in the Australian Outback, home of nefarious Overwatch heroes Junkrat and Roadhog.
Featuring a dirt-brown and grimy aesthetic, Junkertown certainly appears to be a world that Junkrat and Roadhog would inhabit. It is a far cry from the more utopian futuristic landscapes otherwise seen in Overwatch, instead resembling a Mad Max post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Within the lore of Overwatch, this town is inhabited by “lawless scavengers” called the Junkers, led by their Queen, who can be heard in the map’s trailer through voiceover. One of the main features of the Junkertown map is the “Scrapyard,” a gladiatorial arena where the Junkers can duel it out to the death for survival and riches. Thunderdome, anyone?
Along with a trailer for Junkertown, Blizzard also released a relevant animated short titled “Junkertown: The Plan,” starring Junkrat and Roadhog. These animated shorts, like “The Last Bastion” and the Sombra-focused “Infiltration,” come in rarely and are always considered to be a treat for fans.
Blizzard has yet to specify an exact time frame on when Junkertown will be released, other than a vague “coming soon.” But as with all new Overwatch content, expect it on the PC-only Public Test Region (PTR) very soon before its official release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
