PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Player Count Surpassed Dota 2 on Steam

Surprise, surprise: a lot of people are on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds right now. Although it might not be the most refined video game out there, it’s definitely one of the hottest. If you haven’t played it yourself, you’ve definitely watched someone else play it.

And for the first time since the battle royale shooter’s early access release, Battlegrounds was the most simultaneously played game on Steam this Sunday morning. For a short while, Battlegrounds even overtook Valve Corporation’s own MOBA Dota 2, a big accomplishment as Valve is the company that created Steam in the first damn place.

PlayerUnknown himself Brendan Greene took to Twitter to thank the community:

877,844 players at its peak is quite an accomplishment. Dota 2 eventually took back its place as the most-played Steam game, but statistics do show a back-and-forth between the two titles. Seeing how this is only the beginning for Battlegrounds’ still-early lifespan, it will be interesting to see how it will perform as it inches closer to its final release state.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is playable in early access on PC, with an Xbox One version coming by the end of this year.
