Downloads Reportedly Coming to PlayStation Now (Updated)

In an apparent bid to compete with Microsoft’s popular digital rental service, Xbox Game Pass, Sony is reportedly making a major change to PlayStation Now. Kotaku U.K. reports that Sony’s streaming service is adding downloadable games sometime in late September.

According to the outlet’s source, the one caveat is that subscribers will only be able to download PlayStation 4 games from a select list of titles. For those unfamiliar, PlayStation Now is Sony’s cloud-based streaming service that allows subscribers to play a number of select PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 titles through the internet.

This would be a big move for the streaming service, and would have caught the attention of many fans had Sony made a reveal during last week’s E3 press conference. Sony did not immediately respond to Paste’s request for confirmation of this change—we’ll update this post with any new information.

Update: Sony declined to comment on this report.
