Pokémon GO is Finally Getting Legendary Pokémon

Niantic has revealed that its hit mobile game Pokémon GO will finally feature Legendary Pokémon as of this Saturday, July 22. These extremely powerful Pokémon will initially appear as Legendary Eggs inside gyms. Players will then have to cooperate to defeat a Legendary Raid Boss in order to have the opportunity to catch a Legendary for themselves.

On Saturday, players can participate in the Pokémon Go Fest held at Grant Park in Chicago. At the event, they can work together to unlock in-game bonuses for the entire Pokémon GO community. If they are able to catch the required amount of Pokémon within a certain time frame, the first Legendary will appear in Grant Park. If players are successful in defeating the Legendary, then that specific Pokémon will start showing up in Raid battles around the world after the festival.

Niantic shared a video depicting these battles with Legendary Pokémon, which you can watch below—you’ll want to stick around until the end. The company has also announced that new gym badges are coming to the game, via the same trailer. Raid battles, which are an essential part of catching Legendaries, are relatively new to the game, as are gym badges. Learn more about them here and find Niantic’s full legendary announcement here.
