As a bonus for preordering Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, developer Double Fine is offering the original Psychonauts to players for free.
As soon as you preorder the new PSVR title, the PS2-on-PS4 version of the 2005 platformer will automatically unlock in the Playstation Store. Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin itself runs for $20 on the service, with Playstation Plus members getting a discounted offer of $18. If you’re so inclined, you can preorder the game here.
The new VR game launches on Feb. 21. Here’s an official synopsis from a Double Fine press release:
[Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin] bridges the gap between the first Psychonauts and the forthcoming Psychonauts 2, will allow players to assume the role of Raz, an intrepid young psychic and fully fledged member of the Psychonauts — an elite group of international psychic secret agents. Gamers will see through Raz’s eyes in first person, using his various psychic powers to affect the world, and solve puzzles. The power of Clairvoyance will allow players to see through the eyes of others, and explore the environment, whilst other abilities such as Telekinesis and Pyrokinesis will allow them to move things around with the power of their mind…or just set them on fire.
Psychonauts 2’s crowdfunding backers on Fig got an update last week on the progress of that game, which is due out in Q3 2018. You can learn more about that status update here. In the meantime, check out yesterday’s Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin trailer below.
