Paprium is a New Beat ‘Em Up Coming to … the Sega Genesis

It may soon be time to dust off your old Sega Genesis, folks, because believe it or not, there’s a new game heading to the console.

Paprium, developed by WaterMelon games, is a new 16-bit, “postapocalyptic, outrageous, street brawler” coming to Sega’s nearly 30-year-old console on Sept. 16. The small developer collective last put out the “homebrew” (the term for new indie games made for old consoles) Pier Solar and the Great Architects for the Genesis back in 2010.

Here’s the official, crazy-awesome synopsis for Paprium:

Year 8A2, somewhere at equidistant point between Shanghai, Tokyo and Pyongyang, a Megapolis rose from ashes of the shortest but most devastating nuclear war in history, its name is Paprium. BRUTAL, MASSIVE. You will fight your way through the city with Tug, Alex and Dice. Redefine the word justice, deal with the BLU drug temptation, and more importantly: STAY ALIVE!

Not only will Paprium sport 24 levels, five playable characters, co-op and a save function, but it also boasts the largest Genesis cartridge ever produced. Take a look for yourself in the trailer below.
