Xbox One X Said to Have Set Pre-Order Record

The hypemen behind Microsoft Xbox are boasting about their behemoth of a console. At Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Microsoft announced the “Project Scorpio Edition” of the Xbox One X, a limited edition of the new hardware. Designed “for gamers,” this edition has some aesthetic modifications for it, including a “Project Scorpio” badge and a custom-made exterior. And just recently, Microsoft won the title Best Hardware, from the Best of Gamescom Awards.

Microsoft opened up pre-orders for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition this past Sunday night, selling out of stock shortly afterward. Microsoft celebrated their figures in a new blog post – though the post does not mention any actual number figures. The post does include enthusiastic quotes from retailers GameStop and Media Markt regarding the speed of sales, so for now we just have to take their word on it.

With PlayStation 4 Pro, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X releasing during their hardware predecessor’s lifespan, the Big Three of the video game industry are testing the waters to see how consumers will respond to mid-generation hardware.

Microsoft says they will have more details on pre-orders for the standard edition Xbox One X, or you can try your luck when the console hits store shelves on Nov. 7.
