Last week’s first teaser for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival was a tense, eerie introduction to the otherworldly thriller. The film’s full-length trailer, released today, ups the ante considerably, maintaining an enticing sense of mystery while also establishing the story’s sky-high stakes: worldwide destruction, preventable only if expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) can divine the intentions of an enigmatic alien race.
“As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers—and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity,” the film’s plot synopsis explains.
Villeneuve, responsible for a pair of piano wire-taut thrillers in Sicario and Prisoners, is a filmmaker we’d follow just about anywhere right now. Into the stars, it is.
Arrival invades theaters on Nov. 11. Watch the trailer above, and find the first teaser here.
