Kate Hudson and Craig Robinson are set for writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour’s third feature Blood Moon, with Zac Efron also in talks to star, per Deadline.
Set in the streets of New Orleans, Blood Moon is a fantasy feature following a girl with strange and dangerous abilities who escapes from a mental asylum. Amipour’s third feature was inspired by ‘80s and ‘90s fantasy-adventure movies, and incorporates a range of music, from heavy metal to Italian techno.
Amirpour made an impressive debut with 2014’s A Woman Walks Home Alone at Night, a Sergio Leone-inspired, Iranian vampire art film mash-up, which she followed up with the provocative revenge thriller The Bad Batch in 2017. On television, Amirpour recently directed the pilot for Briarpatch, from executive producer and Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, plus episodes of FX’s Legion and Jordan Peele’s forthcoming The Twilight Zone reboot for CBS All Access.
Blood Moon is being produced by John Lesher via his Le Grisbi banner, and CAA Media Finance and Rocket Science will be selling the project to buyers at the American Film Market.
Production is set to start in spring 2019.
