Bryan Singer Is Now Denying Accusations About Him in Unpublished Articles

The people at 20th Century Fox must really be wishing that Bryan Singer would stop mentioning Bohemian Rhapsody at this point. The former X-Men series director had helmed the Freddie Mercury biopic (release date: Nov. 2, 2018) until Dec. 2017, when he was reportedly fired over conflicts with the cast and crew, and replaced with Dexter Fletcher—however, according to Director’s Guild of America guidelines, Singer still retains sole director’s credit.

And why is Singer mentioning Bohemian Rhapsody now? Oh yes, it’s because he thinks yet another damaging article is probably headed his way, this time from Esquire, to coincide with the film’s release. The director took to Instagram this morning to preemptively attack the publication and its story, which we might remind you, he hasn’t actually been able to read yet.

Suffice to say, it’s clearly impossible to read a line like “in today’s climate where people’s careers are harmed by mere accusations” and not be immediately reminded of the recent Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, who was likewise accused of sexual assault by multiple women. In Singer’s case, the director has been accused of sexual assault by multiple young men, including one who was 17 years old when he says the director assaulted him in 2003. Singer denies that charge.

It should also go without saying that the upcoming Esquire piece likely wouldn’t be contacting all of Singer’s associates if it simply existed to “rehash false accusations and bogus lawsuits.” We can probably expect some kind of newly uncovered information, or perhaps additional accusations—which once again, could cost Bohemian Rhapsody, despite the fact that Singer was literally fired from that production in 2017.

We’ll know more whenever the story hits, but Singer’s tone certainly feels like that of a guy who is afraid of what is coming his way.
