New Trailer for HBO’s Bright Lights Reveals Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds Behind the Screen

Today, HBO released a new trailer for their documentary Bright Lights, which recently received a premiere date. The film promises some closure after the December deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds within 24 hours of each other. The trailer reveals much that Star Wars superfans might have missed. In their daily lives, for instance, the two had great chemistry. Fisher, in the trailer, flashes her comedic edge, quipping “I have to go and start rehearsals for Star Wars Seven … tytwo.”

The trailer promises an intimate depiction of Fisher’s public struggle with manic depression and Reynolds’ role in helping her cope. Reynolds jokes, “I share everything with my daughter, especially the check.” Fisher, in the trailer, mentions her role in helping Reynolds through her own ailments. Fisher notes: “My mother, she’ll forget she’s not 35. Age is horrible for all of us, but she falls from a greater height.”

The contributions of Fisher and Reynolds to the entertainment industry encompass more than 60 years from Singing in The Rain, to Star Wars, even up to Amazon’s Catastrophe. HBO’s Bright Lights finally promises to listen to what they have to say. The film premiered at Cannes and received largely positive reviews. You can watch it on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. EST on HBO.
