Director Dan Gilroy is plotting a new film with the same dark duo from his 2014 best original screenplay nominee, Nightcrawler, according to Deadline.
Little is known about the new script currently being passed around Hollywood other than it is set in the art world and has the same leads as Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo. Both Netflix and Fox Searchlight are vying to finance the movie in competition with several other companies.
Nightcrawler elevated Gilroy from screenwriter to renowned director. Gyllenhaal starred as a sleazy sociopath doing whatever it takes to break into Los Angeles’ crime journalism and Russo as the local news producer willing to work with the dubious Gyllenhaal to pull her ratings out of the tank.
Gilroy is currently working on Inner City, out 2018. Gyllenhaal can be seen in Netflix’s Okja out June 28 and Russo just finished shooting Villa Capri.
