Ryan Reynolds Shares Pokémon: Detective Pikachu “Leak”

Pikachu used … “Rick-Roll”? It’s pretty effective!

Ryan Reynolds retweeted a YouTube link titled “Pokémon Detective Pikachu: Full Picture” to his 13 million Twitter followers on Tuesday afternoon.

The link was originally posted by @InspectrPikachu, and redirects curious viewers to a feature-length YouTube video that comprises 60 seconds of what appears to be legitimate preroll footage, followed by Pikachu aerobic dancing for 102 minutes.

Reynolds, the voice of Pikachu in the forthcoming film and human representation of April Fools’ Day, mentioned both the official Detective Pikachu and Warner Bros. Pictures Twitter accounts in his retweet to bring attention to the “leak.”

See the ingenious marketing strategy below and, by all means, watch the “film” now (and one without the “R. Reynolds” watermark in theaters this Friday, May 10).
