Eddie Murphy Resurrects Blaxploitation Hero Rudy Ray Moore in Dolemite is My Name Trailer

Netflix has shared the explosive first trailer for Eddie Murphy’s forthcoming Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite is My Name.

With Murphy tapped to play the biopic’s titular hero, the film follows the strange life and times of Moore, the famed comedian known for creating and portraying a lewd, kung-fu-fighting pimp character with a cane and an arsenal of obscene fables named Dolemite. Dolemite follows Moore’s fledgling comedy beginnings up through the ill-fated production of Moore’s film based on his alter-ego, which would go on to become a runaway box-office smash and a defining movie of the Blaxploitation era.

Dolemite is ambitious, to say the least. The trailer finds Murphy resurrecting the explosive comedian against a who’s-who cast of black talent, including Keegan-Michael Key, Craig Robinson, Wesley Snipes (who just joined the cast of Murphy’s Coming to America sequel), Mike Epps and Titus Burgess. T.I. (aka Tip Harris) and Snoop Dogg also pop in for appearances in the trailer alongside the karate-chopping Murphy.

The Craig Brewer-directed film will arrive on Netflix and in select theaters this fall.
