Edie Falco Joins Cast of Avatar Sequels

Did you forget about the impending barrage of Avatar sequels? Yeah, so had most, until James Cameron and the franchise’s official Twitter announced Wednesday that Edie Falco is joining the Avatar universe as General Ardmore, the commander overseeing the Resource Department Administration’s interests. Considering the RDA’s antagonistic role in the first Avatar movie, it seems that she may be the Big Bad, but it’s not clear exactly how many of the four sequels Falco will appear in.

The first of the movies won’t be released until 2020, over a decade after the original Avatar graced the silver screen. Avatar 2 began filming in September 2017 and will follow the children of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). These kids will also be joined by young members of the Metkayina, another Na’vi clan, and a human teenager born at the Hell’s Gate military complex. If the first Avatar film was Pocahontas in space, then this rough outline is giving us vague Lion King 2 vibes (yes, a Lion King 2 reference, it is a perfectly acceptable film). Bet you anything one of Jake and Neytiri’s children falls in love with the human.

Anyway, we’re glad to hear that Falco, Emmy winner and all-around brilliant actor, will be getting a titanic (eh?) paycheck. Maybe this means the prequels will actually be good, considering Kate Winslet is also signed on. The big, blue jury will remain out until Dec. 18, 2020.
