Finding Dory Sets Box Office Record with $136.2 Million Opening Weekend

The sequel we’ve been waiting 13 years for set a new record for an opening weekend by an animated film with an astounding $136.2 million, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Finding Dory drew in more than $54 million on Thursday and Friday. It replaced the previous record-holder, Shrek the Third, surpassing it by about $15 million.

Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks reprised their roles as Dory and Marlin from the 2003 Pixar film. The movie is set one year after Finding Nemo and follows the titular forgetful blue tang fish as she tries to track down her parents, voiced by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy.
