Watch the Hypnotic, Unsettling Trailer for A24’s In Fabric
Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste

The saying goes that beauty is pain and, according to the trailer for A24’s forthcoming film In Fabric, it also seems that fashion is killer.

The first feature film from director Peter Strickland since his 2014 sadomasochistic romance The Duke of Burgundy, In Fabric sees the acclaimed horror director doing exactly what he does best.

Framed around a mysterious dress bought for a date, the film follows a woman and her struggles to fight the malevolent and horrifying evil that the dress carries.

While seeming like a simple plot, the trailer is anything but. With ghastly rashes, haywire washing machines, floating garments and a sales worker who seems a little too philosophical and nice, the film seems to have a mystique about it that’s equal parts unsettling and sensual.

With the same intricate touch that Strickland put into The Duke of Burgundy and Berberian Sound Studio, In Fabric fits in the realm of arthouse horror similar to Dario Argento’s Suspiria and really any weird project David Lynch has done. It’s simply beautiful and hypnotizing to look at, all while being terrifyingly eerie at the same time.

There’s currently no release date for the film, but Broadchurch’s Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Hayley Squires, Leo Bill and Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie are leading the cast.

The film marks another horror venture for A24, whose horror roster includes Gasper Noé’s Climax, Robert Eggers’ The Witch and Ari Aster’s critically acclaimed Hereditary as well as his forthcoming follow-up Midsommar, to name a few.
