Reese Witherspoon in Talks to Reprise Role in Legally Blonde 3

Elle Woods is on her way back to the big screen.

MGM is on its way to securing Reese Witherspoon in her iconic role as the sorority sister turned lawyer in a third installment of the Legally Blonde franchise, Deadline reports.

The sequel will see the return of several members of the original film’s creative team, including writing duo Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah, and producer Marc Platt. This time, Witherspoon will join the producing team through her own Hello Sunshine. A director has not yet been linked to the project.

While there is no word on the plot yet, Witherspoon addressed the potential for a sequel in a 2015 interview, saying she would love to see Elle Woods running for office. Legally Blonde 2 already saw the lawyer taking on Washington as the legal assistant to a congresswoman, and with 17 years between now and then, a political career could be the natural next step.
