If you’re still fighting with your friends about which country’s version of The Office is better, the UK side just moved ahead again. (We here at Paste had already decided that, though.) A spinoff movie based on Ricky Gervais’ creation is coming to British and Australian theaters and, for us Americans, Netflix.
Gervais revealed Tuesday on Sirius XM’s Opie with Jim Norton Show that the site will stream David Brent: Life on the Road in 2017.
“Netflix have bought out the rest of the world again,” Gervais said. “Everyone’s going to see it! I’d rather 20 million people see it than half-million people see it in cinemas. I want to do tours off the back it.”
The film is set 15 years after The Office and will follow Gervais’ David Brent as the manager-turned-traveling salesman goes on tour with his band Foregone Conclusion.
Gervais has previously worked with Netflix for the political comedy Special Correspondents, starring the comedian and Eric Bana.
