Ah, suburbia. The familiarly boring setting of so many childhoods and coming-of-age movies, home of awkward pubescent discoveries and pesky pet dragons. Wait—that’s not quite right, is it?
Well, that’s the concept for Disney-Pixar’s new film, Onward, which got its first teaser trailer on Thursday evening. The film follows Ian and Barley, two mismatched elf brothers, as they venture forth in Barley’s nu-metal van on a quest to find what magic remains in their suburban world. The trailer is packed with all of the little worldbuilding quirks that Pixar regularly includes in their films, like a sign-flipper offering “cash-4-gems” or a sunbathing mermaid in a kiddie pool.
Onward will feature Tom Holland and Chris Pratt in the two lead roles, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer also lending their voices to the film. Director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae, the duo behind Monsters University, reunite for this new film.
Onward is slated to release in theaters on March 6, 2020. Catch the teaser trailer below.
