Rian Johnson Announces That Star Wars: The Last Jedi Post-Production is Complete

Star Wars fans won’t have to wait too much longer to find out who really is The Last Jedi (hint: it’s Luke Skywalker), with the second installment of the sequel trilogy hitting theaters this holiday season. But writer-director Rian Johnson surprised many by announcing that post-production on his film has already wrapped, with about three months still left until its release.

Johnson announced the news through an Instagram post:

Johnson clarifies that apparently there’s nothing left to do, tweeting:

Post-production, especially on a huge blockbuster from Disney and Lucasfilm, must be a long and arduous effort, so fans will likely be happy that this production made good time and was smooth sailing all around—we’re looking at you, Rogue One, Han Solo movie and Episode IX. (For comparison, Rogue One wrapped post in late November 2016 before releasing just two weeks later.)

Johnson will likely get some well-deserved rest after the release of The Last Jedi, as he is not in line to direct the next chapter of the saga—that honor (or burden) goes to his predecessor J.J. Abrams. In the months to come, we’re hoping to see a new trailer for the movie, as we still have yet to get a good look into Lucasfilm’s mystery box of plot and story details. Johnson, always the fun one on social media, is still playing coy on when a trailer may hit.

Funnily enough, it’s possible that Star Wars star Mark Hamill may have let the cat out of the bag, as he tweeted (in a now-deleted tweet) to a fan to look out during Monday Night Football on Oct. 9. After deleting that tweet, Hamill played take-backsies.

Whenever the next trailer will hit, at least we know for sure that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will grace our movie screens on Dec. 15.
