Woody Harrelson in Early Talks to Play Young Han Solo’s Mentor

The latest actor rumored to make the hyperdrive jump into the Star Wars universe, Woody Harrelson is reportedly Disney’s top choice to play Han Solo’s mentor in the forthcoming young Solo-focused spin-off film.

According to Variety, the Hunger Games and actor’s talks with producers Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are still in “early stages,” though they’re looking keen to cast him alongside titular star Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!). Harrelson has a history of teaming with Shearmur, as they also worked together on all three films in the Hunger Games trilogy.

Aside from being the legendary space scoundrel’s mentor, no other details have surfaced regarding Harrelson’s would-be character, including a name. Similarly, Lucasfilm has kept mum on the identity of the recently cast Emilia Clarke’s (Game of Thrones) character. She and Ehrenreich will be joined by the already massively fan-approved Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian.

Recently rumored to be delayed from May to December of 2018, the second Star Wars Story has a lot to live up to at the box office. The first anthology film, Rogue One, has already passed $800 million globally and has yet to leave theaters.

Directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street, The Last Man on Earth) will be helming next year’s space epic. Harrelson can currently be found co-starring in the teen dramedy The Edge of Seventeen and will star in this summer’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
