Netflix Picks up Ubisoft’s The Division Film, Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain

Netflix has announced the acquisition of yet another film property, this time based on the popular Ubisoft-published Tom Clancy videogame franchise The Division. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain will headline the cast of the film adaptation of the same name. The news was announced during the Ubisoft E3 press conference on Monday.

The movie will be helmed by Hobbs & Shaw and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch and Rafe Judkins, who is also currently working on the Wheel of Time Amazon series, will pen the screenplay. Producers include Leitch’s 87North Productions, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories, Chastain’s Freckle Films, and Ubisoft Film and Television.

Netflix’s logline for the adaptation reads:

In the near future, a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.

A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed.
