Tiffany Haddish Will Be the First Black Woman to Host the MTV Awards

Tiffany Haddish made another history-making moment on Thursday by announcing her duties as host of the MTV Movie and TV Awards, airing on June 18, in an Instagram post.

Besides being her first time as the host of an awards show, Haddish will become the first black woman to host the irreverent awards show. The Girls Trip breakout star is also the first woman to host since Amy Schumer in 2015. This is another history-making moment in Haddish’s burgeoning career after she recently became the first black female comedian to host Saturday Night Live.

Haddish’s star has been on the rise since the release of last year’s Girls Trip with the release of her best-selling memoir The Last Black Unicorn and her appearance in a hilarious Super Bowl ad as the face of Groupon. Most recently, Netflix announced that the comedian would produce and star in new animated series Tuca & Bertie. She will also star in TBS’s The Last O.G. as co-lead with fellow comedian Tracy Morgan.

With so much going, Haddish will hopefully be able to keep up this momentum and get the recognition she truly deserves.
